St Gertrude the Great (1256–1302) was a German Benedictine nun and mystic who was blessed with many visions by the Lord. She fervently prayed for soul’s in purgatory. The book, ‘The life and revelations of Saint Gertrude, virgin and abbess, of the Order of St. Benedict by Saint Gertrude, the Great’, highlights many instances of how souls in purgatory benefited by her prayers and masses. Jesus showed St Gertrude souls entering heaven by the merits of her fervent prayers. Our Lord taught Saint Gertrude the following prayer.
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory and for sinners everywhere – for sinners in the Universal Church, for those in my own home and for those within my family. Amen.
