Day 2: Holy Spirit – Repentance
Since it is likely that, being men, they would sin every day, St. Paul consoles his hearers by saying ‘renew yourselves’ from day to day. This is what we do with houses: we keep constantly repairing them as they wear old. You should do the same thing to yourself. Have you sinned today? Have you made your soul old? Do not despair, do not despond, but renew your soul by repentance, and tears, and Confession, and by doing good things. And never cease doing this. – Saint John Chrystonsom
Psalm 51:12 A clean heart create for me, God; renew within me a steadfast spirit.
First step, as we journey on the 50 days to Pentecost, is to recognize that we need renewal and new life in the Holy Spirit each day, every moment. We recognize we need the greater power of God, His strength to undo the yoke of slavery to sin, or any lifestyle that makes us turn in a direction away from God, rather than towards God. We need ongoing fuel, fire and force to propel us in the direction of the Father’s kingdom and live a life pleasing to God.
Jesus, by the power of His most precious blood and His Holy wounds conquered and put all His enemies under His feet. Jesus reconciled the world to the Father and conquered sin, death and hell by His death on the cross. Jesus intercedes for His children and waits for each of His sons, daughters to repent, to return to the Father’s heart. He equips all His children with the power of the Holy Spirit to put under His feet anything that slaves and blocks them.
Do you need His unconditional acceptance and love? Return, child of God to the heart of Your Father, where you belong. Live as His child, born of His Spirit. Come!
Just as wear and tear is normal, hardness of heart occurs in life each day for various reasons, wounds, hurts, discouragement and demotivation, burn out, exhaustion, betrayal of loved ones , stressed relationships and various other life experiences. No matter where you’ve been, no matter what it is, how long or how hard, Your Father’s love reaches out to you wherever you are. Receive His love for you, repent and return to Him to rest and remain in His love.
Sincere heartfelt repentance and decision to change and turn back is the key to receive grace, mercy and forgiveness from the Father and the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.
What is causing the hardness of your heart? What is standing in the way of turning back to the Father? Are you open and willing to turn and surrender yourself to the Father who is love?
Prayer: Abba I repent of my sins, I surrender myself to you body, soul and spirit. I desire Your unconditional love, mercy and forgiveness. I need the power of Your Holy Spirit to help me live as Your child of love . Lead me in Your truth. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Rise, run to the Church: here is the Father, here is the Son, here is the Holy Spirit. He runs out to meet you, for he hears you as you reflect within the secrecy of your heart. And while you are still at a distance, he catches sight of you and starts to run. He sees into your heart, he runs out so that no one will detain you, and furthermore he embraces you…. He throws his arms around your neck, to lift up what had been lying on the ground and to enable someone oppressed by the burden of sin and looking down at earthly things to turn his gaze again to heaven, where he should have been seeking his Creator. Christ throws his arms around your neck because he wants to remove the yoke of slavery and put a gentle yoke upon it. – St. Ambrose
