Come Holy Spirit

Day 21: Counsel  (Gift of the Holy Spirit)

John 16:7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

Saint Augustine of Hippo: “O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.”

Though we pray at every mass, why is it hard to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit?

Have we asked Jesus or the Father to give us a true understanding of the sweet Holy Spirit and for the Holy Spirit to descend upon us?

The Gift of Counsel enables a person to judge promptly, correctly and intuitively. Have we judged incorrectly and if so can we now ask for this gift from the Holy Spirit?

Prayer: Oh Sweetest Holy Spirit, The true Counselor of the heart, Gifted from the Father by the Ascension of the Son, I beg earnestly to fill me with light of Your Counsel. Help me use this gift to give guidance for those in need and help me to lead a life that turns me into a sweet incense to the Father. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

John 16:13-14 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

1 Corinthians 1:22-25 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
