Day 36: Holy Spirit – Teacher
John 14:25, 26 I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything and remind you of all that [I] told you.
St. Augustine: “O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.”
St. Peter Damian: “He pours light into our minds, arouses our desire and gives us strength… As the soul is the life of the body, so the Holy Spirit is the life of our souls.”
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit as a teacher to mankind after He ascended to Heaven
- Are there any areas in your life that you are struggling with and need Divine Counselor’s help?
- Can you pray to the Holy Spirit daily to release His gifts that will help you to keep God’s commandments and persevere in carrying your daily cross?
Prayer: Dear Jesus, I recognize I need the Paraclete in my life every moment so I can understand and do the will of my Father in heaven. I desire to walk in God’s statutes and observe His ordinances. But, I cannot do this on my own strength as my flesh is weak, and so, I pray for the Holy Spirit to rest powerfully on me and empower me to do God’s will. I earnestly seek the gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength, knowledge and fear of the Lord. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Come Holy Spirit! Amen.
“Come, Holy Spirit. Spirit of truth, you are the reward of the saints, the comforter of souls, light in the darkness, riches to the poor, treasure to lovers, food for the hungry, comfort to those who are wandering; to sum up, you are the one in whom all treasures are contained. Come! As you descended upon Mary that the Word might become flesh, work in us through grace as you worked in her through nature and grace. Come! Food of every chaste thought, fountain of all mercy, sum of all purity. Come! Consume in us whatever prevents us from being consumed in you.” —St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi
May the Lord send His Holy Spirit upon you as He did on his disciples at Pentecost. As the Holy Spirit descended upon Mary that the Word might become flesh, may He come and work in you through grace as He worked in her through nature and grace. Come! Food of every chaste thought, fountain of all mercy, sum of all purity. Come! Consume in me whatever prevents me from being consumed in you.
