Day 6: Holy Spirit – prayer life, communicating with God
Through the Holy Spirit, we are connected to ultimate Truth as found in Christ.
John 16:12-14 I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Through the Holy Spirit, we can understand God, the world, and who we are in Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:10 God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.
Through the Holy Spirit, scripture was written, is understood, and equips us to continue to follow Christ.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work
“God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening in the beginning of prayer.” – Mother Teresa
“Everything starts with prayer. Love to pray-feel the need to pray often during the day and take the trouble to pray. If you want to pray better, you must pray more. The more you pray, the better it becomes. Perfect prayer does not consist of many words but in the fervor of the desire which raises the heart to Jesus.” – Mother Teresa
How can I grow in my prayer life to make my relationship with God stronger?
Prayer is one of the places that we can absolutely “hear” from God. This doesn’t mean God will speak audibly to us, but we are encouraged to spend intentional time in God’s presence through prayer. While prayer is certainly a time to “talk to God,” it can and is absolutely a time to hear from Him in some way as well.
Prayer: Almighty God, I pray that I will be taken into a deeper, more meaningful relationship with you, where I will grow in faith and hear the still small voice within my soul. Help me to be attentive to Your call that will cause me to walk in Your righteousness. Open the eyes of my heart to see the many blessings You bestow on me, especially the very small ones that I sometimes take for granted. Walk with me Father, where I can experience an outpouring of Your love and mercy. Amen
1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 - Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
- Litany of the Holy Spirit
- 500 Praises to the Holy Spirit (Pray a few of them as you can)
