3. Power & Authority of the Word of God
When His Godhead is veiled in human nature, His bodily acts still declare Him to be not man only, but the Power and Word of God. To speak authoritatively to evil spirits, for instance, and to drive them out, is not human but divine; and who could see-Him curing all the diseases to which mankind is prone, and still deem Him mere man and not also God? He cleansed lepers, He made the lame to walk, He opened the ears of the deaf and the eyes of the blind, there was no sickness or weakness that He did not drive away. Even the most casual observer can see that these were acts of God. The healing of the man born blind, for instance, who but the Father and Artificer of man, the Controller of his whole being, could thus have restored the faculty denied at birth? He Who did thus must surely be Himself the Lord of birth. (On the Incarnation of the Word, St Athanasius of Alexandria, Chapter 3, The Divine Dilemma and its Solution in the Incarnation — continued)
During this earthly ministry, Jesus cured lepers and healed many diseases by His Word and many witnessed the power and authority of His Word. This same Word of God, is available to each one who believes in Him.
His Word, His power and His authority is at work in all those who believe in Him. Surrender to His authority, His kingship and faithfully follow Him, His commandments and His teachings.
Jesus is at work in His believers to not just heal and restore but also to accomplish and fulfill His unique plan, purpose in each of them and spread the kingdom of the Father.
Ask the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us understand the power and authority of God’s Word. Submit and accept the authority of God’s Word and fully surrender every area of your life to Jesus, to His authority and bring everything to His Lordship.
Mathew 8: 1- 3 When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I will do it. Be made clean.” His leprosy was cleansed immediately.
Mathew 8: 5-11, 13 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.” He said to him, “I will come and cure him.” The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. And Jesus said to the centurion, “You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you.” And at that very hour [his] servant was healed.
Ephesians 3: 20,21 Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Pray, read and reflect the scripture passages above. Anyone can admire the tremendous faith of the leper, the risk he takes to approach Jesus amidst the large crowds, to just make his request known.
See the faith of the centurion, how he believes the authority of God’s Word. God’s word has no limitations, no boundaries and is not subject to space and time. God’s word is at work way beyond our human understanding and human thinking.
So why wait, rise in faith, pick up your bible and use it to pray and make known your requests to God in love. Pray using the Word of God. Pray for yourself and all God’s children to be equipped by His Word, and help us all walk in true love of a child of God, to remain firm in faith – believing at all times in His presence, His power and authority at work in His Word.
Thank you Lord for Your Word. We thank You for Your Power, Your authority at work in all who believe & surrender to You. Open my heart, stir faith so that I too can believe. Lord, I am not worthy but only say Your Word, my soul is healed, my faith restored. Help me live according to Your Word. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
